Scarifying and Aerating
Scarifying
This can be done in the spring or the autumn. We suggest carrying out heavy scarification in the Autumn as it is the best time to sow seed and get complete germination. Our spring scarification will aim to get out all the old thatch and any small amounts of moss left over from the winter. The blades will cut into the ground allowing oxygen to reach the grassroots and break up compaction but for heavier lawns we recommend aerating.
Aerating
There are two types of aeration, either solid tine and hollow tine. We recommend solid tining your lawn twice a year and hollow tining it every two years. This gets your lawn on a great cycle of breaking up any compaction and limiting moss growth. When you aerate your lawn, you punch holes down into the ground opening space for the grass roots to grow down and into and allowing the fertilizer to get down deep into the ground helping your lawn thrive. This step is a must if you want a perfect lawn.
